Marilyn Monroe Exhibition

A few weekends ago, I visited the American museum (BA2 7BD) especially to attend the Marilyn Monroe exhibition, which showcased many of Marilyn's clothes, accessories and more. As a lover of fashion and Marilyn it was a great way to spend a dull Sunday afternoon. The exhibition has been running since March and is due to end on 30th October; if you wish to attend you need to hurry!

Olivia Rubin For Dune - The Interview

I first wrote about Olivia Rubin and her collaboration with one of my favourite Shoe store's Dune.This collection is now available online and in stores.

Dune kindly gave me the opportunity to Interview Olivia Rubin. I would just like to say a big thank you to both Dune and Olivia for taking part in this interview for Behind The Shoes

What inspired and influenced this collection?

I wanted to reinvent some of my signature prints onto an array of shoes to suit all occasions. I created 3 unique colour ways to appeal to all the different type of Dune customer-still keeping the prints bold and strong so that each print really does make a statement of its own.

Do you find it easier to create designs/prints for clothes or shoes?

My primary passion is clothes so that obviously comes naturally to me but it was a great experience to adapt my prints onto shoes and accessories-I had also many great trims to play within the range-we’ve used a raffia platform and patent details to really give contrasting texture.

Who would you most like to see in your designs?

We’ve already seen Fearne Cotton rocking the Banksy wedge which is great-she put the outfit together perfectly! I think there is a shoe for many different celebs in the range. I can see Tess Daly, Nicola Roberts, Pixie Lott in the different pieces...

How long did the design process from sketch to shoe take ?

It took a while (approx 6 months) to see the sketches made up into initial designs and then we tweaked trims and details to make them extra special! It was exciting to see the final shoes made up and we created special shoe bags and pink boxes to give the range that luxe designer feel.

Which designers and artists do you admire ?
Modern art always inspires me-I have so many artists that give me inspiration for prints and colour ways-some of my favourites include Picasso, Riley,Dine, Calder....I also appreciate individual elements from many designers-at the moment I am really into Marni’s eclectic mix of textures and Prada’s fun prints. I also adore Givenchy’s clever prints for AW11-very early 90’s!

Will there be an AW11 collection for Dune ?
Who knows! I like to keep people guessing...

Titanic Odyssey is described as a platinium grey with lots of sparkle. It applies like a dream and is well pigmented.

The eyeshadow is very reasonably priced at £7.00 for 2.5 grams,a little of this eyeshadow goes along way. Isn't it pretty ? It is part of a great range of colours.I would definitely repurchase this again.

I mentioned a few posts back,that I would be providing some reviews and swatches.Today I will share with you swatches from the Katy Perry O.P.I Collection.(I received this set as part of my valentine gift from the boy)I hadn't tried any O.P.I polishes before this collection.

My favourite colours from the collection are The One That Got Away and Teenage Dreams,I will be investing in full sizes bottles of these. I have to say I am very impressed with O.P.I,the polishes and Katy Perry.I am looking forward to trying out their other shades and the new pirates collection in May.I found the polish applies really well and dries quickly. O.P.I are also a cruelty free brand which is great.

Olivia Rubin For Dune, London Fashion Week

February is here and London Fashion Week is upon us. It's a time of excitement, inspiration and collaborations. One collaboration I am very excited about is 'Olivia Rubin for Dune'. Olivia is a british designer who is now in her seventh season. Olivia is best know for her signature graphic prints, which have been seen on many celebrities.

To celebrate the collaboration Dune are offering one lucky follower on twitter, the chance to win a ticket to Olivia Rubin's Catwalk show on saturday. Dune are also supplying products for the VIP goody bags.

The collection is limited edition for Spring Summer 2011 and will consist of 12 shoe designs from the Mary-Jane pump to the 70's inspired wedge. It will feature three of Olivia's signature prints, along with clutch and tote bags.

Viva Glam Cyndi

This lipstick is rapidly becoming one of my favourites. I got this at christmas along with Creme Cup.

This is what MAC say Cyndi is a high-lustre finish and a light coral-red colour.

I really like the colour of this lipstick and find it, the perfect shade for this time of year. If you like wearing reds and want a shade that is subtle yet pretty, this is the shade for you. I haven't included a full swatch of me wearing it.I find it tends to look different on everyone.This lipstick is creamy and very well pigmented. I can wear it all day and rarely have to reapply. I would definitely repurchase if it wasn't limited edition.

As I mentioned in a previous post, for christmas I got some goodies from lush. This bubble bar was my first bubble bar from lush.

My Thoughts

My bath water was certainly sky blue and the scent of the water was very refreshing and sweet. This bubble bar would definitely work for a morning bath or a relaxing soak at the end of the day. I used all my bubble bar in one bath but I am certain you could get multiple uses from one bar.It's very reasonably priced and I will definitely be repurchasing this.

Weight Loss 2011 Week 3

This week wasn't the best of weeks. I have stayed the same weight, at least it's not a gain. I have been working very long days and eating late, which I don't think has helped me. I have been drinking more water, which is good I plan to keep this up.

My task for the next week is not to eat late.

I thought I would start this year, by rounding up last year...no sheep needed, here ! December was a very busy month for me. Like most people, I found it difficult to fit everything in and unfortunately this is why I haven't posted much. I am just getting things back on track and will hopefully, be able to post more frequently.
I would just like to share with you some news/updates from december and say some public thank you's.
The lovely Lauren from Lauren Loves featured me and my blog in her advent calendar. It was a great honour to be featured and I was overwhelmed by her kind words. ( I hope Lauren does another calendar this year *wink* )

I was also lucky enough to become involved in a new project, Thank you Emma for the opportunity. Those of you who follow me on twitter, may know already. As of december the UK Beauty Forum was lauched by Emma and I am proud to say, I am one of it's moderator's. If you like the interaction between fellow bloggers on your blogs and twitter you will love the growing community and interaction on our forum. They are a lovely bunch of girls and Guys,I would love you all to join the fun !

I would also like to thank shopalike, for adding me to their blogroll . They are a one stop shop for all things fashion.

Weight Loss 2011 Week 2

This week I lost 1lb, which isn't bad for the first weigh in. It's also a 1lb off of the weight I gained at christmas ! My task for the next week, is to drink more water.

Weight Loss Challenge - Update

The beauty bloggers weight loss chanllenge has now finished. I am still continuing to lose weight on my own, In the last 12 weeks I have dropped a jean size. I can now fit into several tops that I couldn't before !

I took a couple of weeks off from dieting, during christmas I felt it was well deserved. As of now, I am back on my healthy eating diet/plan.

Shoe Is Art - The Winner

Back in September I wrote about Dune's in-store autumn and winter 2010 campaign based on the theme of Shoe is Art.

Dune offered artists and shoe fans the opportunity to create their own piece of art in their latest competition. The competition ended on Monday 8th November.

Enteries could have been a painting, photograph, sculpture or any other form of art.
There were three regional prizes of £1000 (each one will be included in the final judging) and the main prize is for £10,000.

There were over 400 entries including films,installations,paintings and sculptures.

The winners will also have their entries displayed in the window of the Flagship store in Covent Garden, London and other regional flagship stores across the UK.

After two hours of deliberation, the panel of six (including Daniel Rubin Founder and Executive Chairman of The Dune Group), unanimously selected Jane Forbes.

Jane is an artist based in Scotland. Jane's winning work was put on display in the Covent Garden Flagship store on the 8th December and as part of the presentation she also received her prize from David Rubin.

What's in my Cleanse & Polish ?

It contains Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao),Hops Extract (Humulus lupulus), Rosemary Essential Oil/Extract (Rosmarinus officinalis),Chamomile Essential Oil/Extract (Anthemis nobilis),Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus globulus),D-panthenol,Glycerin and Beeswax (Cera alba).

How to use ?

Cleanse daily morning and night using this two-step process:

Step 1: Massage 1 or 2 pumps gently onto dry skin over face and neck. Free from mineral oil, its rich and creamy texture swiftly removes all traces of face and eye make-up, including stubborn mascara.

Step 2: Rinse the pure muslin cloth in hand-hot water and wring out before gently polishing off the cream to gently remove dead skin cells and help reveal clean, soft and radiant skin.

Splash face with cool clean water and follow with Instant Boost Skin Tonic and your choice of moisturiser.

My thoughts
It is very easy to apply and a little goes along way making the price very reasonable at £11.50 for 100ml. I expect this to last me around 4-6 months. You can purchase the cleanse and polish in a variety of sizes from 30ml - 200ml.

I like the versatility of this product as it saves you having to buy a separate makeup remover, which also saves on storage.It is great for travelling and takes up minimal room in your bag or suitcase.

I find after using the cleanse and polish all my makeup has been removed and it leaves my skin feeling really clean and fresh. I would repurchase this again and recommend it and the brand.

Closet Makeover

I moved house earlier in the year and my accessorises,cosmetics and shoes have been in chaos.

The end goal is to have a wardrobe like Carrie's.

In the meantime I need some new storage. As far as my cosmetics goes I think I will invest in some drawers from Muji.

Some of my shoes are spread between 2 wooden ikea shoe racks ( I think the boy may get the old shoe racks) but the rest are still packed in their boxes in a big plastic box, with nowhere to go. In the old place I had a shoe cupboard.

Can anyone recommend any good shoe storage solutions for 70+ pairs of shoes ?

I also need some decent storage for my handbags and other accessories.

I lost 1lb this week so not a bad start for week 1, I am hoping this will increase next week as I have been signed off work for the reminder of this week until 2/11 and it will allow me more time for exercise and no junk food. I had a crap friday but my day was made that evening, when I received not one but two blog awards from the lovely thebristolbeautyblog

Now I have received the Beautiful Blogger award,I'm supposed to tell you 7 secrets about me, and then pass this on to 10 other bloggers.

Here goes

1) Although I LOVE Mr Depp, I have some sort of bizarre crush on Jeremy Clarkson - I think it's down to the fact that he doesn't really care what people think. He just says what he thinks.

2) I got my first set of lego last christmas from a friend.

3) I feel a house is more of a home, when there are plenty of books in it, I would like my own library.

4) Some of my favourite scents are that new book smell, the smell you get when you have blown out a candle, that's been burning all night. Fresh bread baking.

5) I have shared drinks with two bizarre magazine and playboy covermodels !

6) Two of my heros are Roald Dahl (his books got me not only to pick up books but to enjoy reading) and Ruth Handler ( Ruth is the woman behind barbie, showing the world that a woman can be beautiful, have a brain and be anything she puts her mind to Vet,lifeguard, pilot the list goes on ).

7) Despite having a love for shoes and heels that are 5-6inches, I have been lucky enough never to tumble and break any bones.... I hope this continues to be the case.

Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you for my awards.

Benefit - Cruelty Free ?

A few weeks ago I wrote a review on Benefit Cosmetics and after it I was left with one question. Are Benefit cruelty free ?

Taken at Banksy Exhibit 2009.

There are various discussions/comments on one of the Benefit fanpage on facebook. However I wanted confirmation from Benefit directly. I emailed them and this is what they had say.

Not the result I was hoping for.

Until it changes, I will not be purchasing any Benefit products or using anymore products.

Benefit Cosmetics

On sunday I found I had some spare time to visit debenhams in Bath.

I stopped off at the Benefit counter to have a look at some of the products I have been curious about.Until Sunday I had never used any Benefit products, I had always admired the pretty packaging and range of products from afar.

The young woman on the counter was really helpful and lovely. She was very happy to answer my questions,show me the products and give her recommendations. So for customer service I have to give Benefit 10/10.

I was able to try out the erase paste in shade 01.

benefit say This concentrated, creamy concealer brightens and camouflages in one easy step! Targets dark circles, discoloration and imperfections.

It went on easily, only a small amount was used and it didn't feel heavy on my skin. I originally thought that £18.50 for the size of the pot was very expensive but given how much you need I think it is a fair price.

Benefit You Rebel Lite

benefit say Our defiantly different tinted moisturizer gives your complexion coverage, moisture and SPF protection all in one. For fair-skinned rebels.

Like with the erase paste, less is definitely more and I think that a tube of this will last quite awhile so the price at £21.50 is reasonable. Another great thing about this product is that it has an SPF (15).

Then came Sugarbomb

benefit say swirl the 4 flattering shades of peach, soft plum, shimmering pink and rose powders together and sweep on cheeks for a sweet rush of gorgeous.

It gives such a lovely glow and the 4 shades work very well together without being too extreme.

The Porefessional

benefit say Quickly minimize the appearance of pores! Apply this silky, lightweight balm for translucent pore coverage and smoother-than-smooth skin. Pores... now you see 'em, now you don't!

I think this was my favourite product the results are great and it is well worth the £23.50.

I will definitely be adding all these to my collection and I would love to try badgal lash and eye bright ( as I was never able to get any copies of glamour *sad face* )

This season Dune has dedicated its in-store autumn and winter 2010 Campaign to the theme of 'Shoe Is Art'. Taking its inspiration from cartoons, cubism and pop art. It's colourful and innovative display showcases the shoe in an original and visually exciting form.

Dune is offering artists and shoe fans alike the opportunity to create their own piece of art in their latest competition. The competition launched on Monday 27th September and will run until the Monday 8th November.

The art can be a painting, photograph, sculpture or any other form of art. You need to be at least 18 to join. There are three regional prizes to be won £1000 for each prize (each one will be included in the final judging) and the main prize is for £10,000.

The winners will also have their entries displayed in the window of the Flagship store in Covent Garden, London and other regional flagship stores across the UK.

To enter the competition you can submit your entry at the Dune Stores.

Today I finally managed to get my mitts on Barry M's Pink Iridescent and it's sooooo pretty and I can't wait to get it on my nails and a NOTD up !!

I have been trying for weeks to get my hands on a bottle and today was my lucky day. It's not the only Barry M missing from my collection, the other elusive nail paint is Mushroom.

I have tried online and in boots and superdrug in several different towns and cities. The Barry M nail paint saga continues, stay tuned !

I was lucky enough to receive some products from Emma at Rock Face Minerals. I was sent a range of products to review.

This review is devoted to the Natural Lip Balm I have been using the Sheer Clear Lip Balm for a few weeks now.

Rock Face Minerals say It's Made by hand, in small batches to order, these lipbalms are packed with lovely natural ingredients to pamper and condition your lips.

What's In My Natural Lip Balm ?

Contains coconut oil, grapeseed oil, cocoa butter, beeswax, sweet almond oil, vitamin E, aloe butter, candelilla wax

The Sheer Clear is one of two lip balms in the current range. The other is mauve a tinted lip balm

It is very easy to apply and there is no mess unlike alot of other lip balms that are packaged in pots.It's texture isn't too sticky and it has a pleasant,natural scent so your nose will be happy all day long!

Weekly Weight Update

I lost another 1lb it's ok but not as much as I would have liked.Considering I have been eating and working odd hours, it's not so bad.

I'm no expert or doctor but I thought I would share some of my insights into losing weight and having a healthier lifestyle and what I have found useful with a dash of don't try this at home.

NB I must stress if you are looking to embark upon a lifestyle change, please

contact your gp for a general health check and make sure they are ok with

going ahead.

Firstly I would recommend making small changes to start with or at least for the first few weeks.

DTTAH - Trying to change everything at once may cause you to become demotivated or to go on a sugar/grease food bender. Rome wasn't build in a day, and yes I have done it .Comedown is bitch not to mention, your own disappointment .

Suggestion one

Increase your water intake whether it's sparkling or still or a combo of the two.
Also if you are a lover of hot drinks like me and enjoy the sugar,

you could use sweetners or have sugar in every other hot drink.
Or decrease the number of sugars you have in a single hot drink.
Or if your feeling brave and fancy going cold turkey cut them out completely.

FOTD - Red Queen

I used a brown eyeshadow from a rimmel colour palette I got free in December 2009.
My mascara is mac splashproof lash in blacksplash and I am wearing Dior Addict Plastic gloss in shade 854.

Lauren's Summer Nights Nails

I have now created my 2nd and final entry for Lauren Loves Summer Nails Competition

The design is my own.For this design I used Avon's Viva Pink and the blue stars I have had for a long time and I am not sure where they were from originally.

I used two coats of Viva Pink as one coat left some of my nail tip clearly visable.I then added the stars and a clear top coat.

The colour of the nail polish is a great vivid shade.

Well I made my first entry to Lauren Loves Summer Nails Competition

I have called this design Lauren's Summer Ice Lolly.

The design is my own and I used 3 polishes from the Models Own

For my design I chose Beth's Blue,Lemon Meringue and Pastel Pink.

I hadn't used Models Own nail polish before and I was really impressed with the colour and the consistency.

It is also nice to have a big bottle of nail polish and at 14ml a bottle they are well worth the £5 each. Currently they have an offer on, to save money when buying multiples of any nail polish or eyeshadow powder.

I am hoping to invest in more of the range in the future.

Finally I would just like to wish Lauren a very happy birthday Xxx

I recently purchased Volcano Foot Mask & ScrubVolcano Foot Mask & Scrub from LUSH i finally got round to using it yesterday.

Lush say it is a "Deep cleansing,deodorising,skin-softening treatment for toes,soles and heels.With deep cleansing clays,lemon oil and enzyme-packed papaya,stimulating,antifungal,cinnamon and fresh tomatoes to stop stinkness".

Lush recommend you cover your feet in the Volcano mask, wrap them in plastic bags or film,leave on for 10 minutes then massage in to scrub away old skin and rinse off thoroughly.

Using the mask I found a little messy but that is only because I am a bit clumsy and needed more hands! As I ended up missing the film and leaving some of the scrub on the living room floor oops !

After one use, I found my soles to be a little softer and my feet felt refreshed, although I didn't quite get the walking on clouds experience that the LUSH sales assistant said she got.

I will be continuing to use this product and will be interested to see how soft my feet become.

After hearing so much buzz about Eyeko products I decided to buy a few bits. Of course my decision wasn't at all swayed by asos having a sale !

I bought 3 nail polishes and some concealer.

The concealer gives a nice even coverage and is very light in texture. There is little to no mess when applying the concealer.

The packaging is light weight and very girlie and cute. Not to mention it's a steal at £5.

I have a love for shiny and glittery things but did I mention my love for buttons ? Well i do love them,practical yet pretty as well.I wear buttons on my clothes and shoes and now thanks to Kirsty I can wear them in my hair ! The button bobby pins came from PaperFish

I am hoping Kirsty will makes some more in different colours ! Continuing the button theme, i also brought some buttons from Kirty's other store on Etsy, BigFish The buttons are going to be put on the outside of my sewing box...once i have it.

Eye test my hearties argh !

So I went for my first eye test in seven years and it went ok. I still have to wear glasses,which I expected.. so no surprises there !

I spend ages trying on what felt like,every pair of glasses for women that specsavers had.Eventually I settled on 2 pairs.

I think my fave part of the whole appointment,was my blind spot test,purely because i got to wear an eye patch ;)

Bad Medicine

Well i went to see my doctor today due to my lack of sleep and the stress i am under, due mainly to situations which . He was as i expected completely and utterly useless. I appreciate not all doctors out there are ! However i seem to have a useless doc,which makes going to the doctors for a help an interesting task if nothing else..

I was told today that i couldn't possibly have any of the meds i wanted.. As i am too young.Which in itself is a joke,as many yrs prior to now i have been put on all sorts of meds.

Also what doesn't help my doctor's case, was when i asked for repeat meds he was asking what dosage i needed. So naturally i asked the question "Are they not listed in my notes?" To be told i only have the vague notes on the computer and we have none of your paper notes. Which is a great surprise considering i changed doctors over 3 years ago !

So in short i am left sleepless and zombie-like for ???
